Year 1 Maths: Building Brilliant Mathematicians!

Date: 29th Sep 2026 @ 8:44pm

IMG_0204.jpegOur Year 1 mathematicians have been working hard in maths and have made a fantastic start to the year!

We have been developing our understanding of place value, exploring how numbers are made and what each number represents. We have been reading and writing numbers and using practical resources to help us see numbers in different ways. We have particularly enjoyed using concrete objects to help us explain our mathematical thinking.

We have also been busy exploring addition and subtraction. We have used practical equipment, pictures and number bonds to help us understand what happens when we add together or take away. The children have been learning to use mathematical vocabulary such as add, altogether, more, greater than, subtract, take away, less than and number bond.

Well done Year 1, for your enthusiasm, resilience and fantastic mathematical thinking!
