Victorian Day

Date: 1st May 2026 @ 1:16pm

Year 5 had a fantastic day stepping back in time as they explored what life was like in a Victorian classroom. The children were amazed by the strict rules, wooden desks, and old-fashioned equipment such as slate boards and chalk. They discovered how lessons were very different, with pupils expected to sit up straight, listen carefully, and follow instructions without question.

Dressed in Victorian-style expectations, Year 5 tried handwriting with ink and learned about traditional subjects such as reading, arithmetic, and reciting facts. There was lots of curiosity, thoughtful questions, and laughter as the children compared school life then and now.

In the afternoon, children exploried Victorian toys and games.

It was a memorable experience that brought history to life and helped Year 5 really understand what education was like in the Victorian era.
