Spring 2 Week 2
Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 4:12pm
As part of our phonics focus we have been exploring some environmental sounds. The children have explored different day to day objects and the sounds they make.
In maths this week we have been looking at sorting objects into different categories e.g by colour.
In identiplay, we have been focusing on the animal train. The children are encouraged to follow a series of one step instructions by the adult e.g “Tiger on train”. The children can then begin to implement this within the classroom during play.
Our afternoon sessions this week have been sensory food play based. Our main focus has been pita pockets, the children got to choose fillings of their choice and then got the opportunity to enjoy them afterwards.
On Tuesday, our reception children had another visit from little bikers and they were encouraged to ride the bikes between the cones.
On Thursday the whole class had their pony therapy session, this week we focused on recognising when the ponies are scared/startled as well as being able to enjoy some time with the ponies.
On Friday we celebrated world book day by wearing our pyjamas and completing activities based on the book ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. In the morning, the children accessed the school library where the children were read the story and were able to engage with this (Marvel was our very own hungry caterpillar!). In the afternoon, the children got to choose to add colour to a caterpillar/butterfly using paint, felt tips or colouring pencils. After this, we engaged in sensory food play where the children were able to explore the different foods that the hungry caterpillar consumed.
Theodore was our star of the week for making a request during our story and rhyme time. Well done Theodore!
Have a lovely weekend,
Starburst Team
