Autumn 1 Week 8
Date: 23rd Oct 2026 @ 3:28pm
Halloween has been our main focus this week in Starburst class. We have completed lots of different fun Halloween activities such as; potion making, ghost hand prints, monster biscuits, pumpkin painting and much more. We have also linked the Halloween theme in with our learning and had opportunities to explore our Halloween tuff tray.
In phonics, we have been focusing on finding ‘one the same’. The children were shown a card with a symbol on (e.g an orange), they then had to turn the cards over to find one the same. This was made harder by adding more cards as the children went along. Throughout the activity the adult modelled the vocabulary same and different using a core board to support.
In maths, the children have been focusing on the number song ‘5 wicked witches’. We listened to the song as a whole class, taking it in turns to put a witch into the cauldron. The children then had the opportunity to engage with an adult on a 1-1 basis to complete their work task.
In English, we have been focusing on the book ‘Meg and Mog’ to go alongside our Halloween theme. The adult brought the story to life by making our very own cauldron and allowing the children to take it in turns to add the items from the book.
In our food lesson this week we made monster cookies. The children used a communication board to help them decide which colour icing and toppings they wanted.
Arlo was our star of the week for engaging in more adult led activities. Well done Arlo!
Have a lovely half term, we look forward to seeing you after the holidays!
